Fire Pits & Heaters

If you have a gas outdoor fire pit, very minimal cleaning is required, you just need to wipe down the metal surrounding to keep it looking new. Some people prefer this option for their cheap fire pits as little maintenance is required. 

For those of you looking for an outdoor fire pit that will burn charcoal or wood, you should clean and maintain it regularly to help avoid a build up of ash. Other people prefer this type of fire pit to experience the real fire. You don’t need to clean out the whole of your cheap fire pit after use, but instead, wait for it to cool completely and then scoop out the burnt down wood or charcoal. Place a tarpaulin over the top to avoid any water getting in and mixing with the leftover ash. 

At the end of the summer season, do a more thorough clean of your cheap fire pit by removing all of the ash. Create a mixture of mild soap and hot water and use a soft cloth to clean the interior of the fire pit. Repeat on the outside of the fire pit and then tip the fire pit onto its side to allow it to dry fully. 

You shouldn’t leave your metal fire pit out all winter, so if you have garden storage, it’s best to put it away. If not, then a piece of tarpaulin that is well secured will be sufficient to keep your cheap fire pit protected. 

There are many different cheap outdoor heater options to help make your garden more usable and comfortable all year round. 

You could go for cheap fire pits, either one fuelled by propane or a traditional wooden or charcoal fire pit, for all of your family to gather around when the temperature drops. A standing patio heater is also great for this. 

If you want something more subtle, then you could go for a wall mounted cheap patio heater or a hanging electric heater to go over the top of your table and chairs. 

Some outdoor fire pits require a propane tank that is placed into the door of the fire pit and that’s what it runs on. 

Other cheap fire pits require you to buy either charcoal or wood to burn in them. To give you an idea of how much you will need, around 10 small pieces of wood burn per hour. If you choose charcoal, a standard bag you would buy for a BBQ will let off heat for around 2 hours. Your choice of charcoal or wood for your cheap fire pit simply comes down to personal preference.

Where you position your cheap outdoor heater depends on the type you have opted for. Tall standing patio heaters should go on the hard floor, to ensure it remains stable. Outdoor fire pits that run on propane will also be better suited to a more stable surface. 

Wall mounted cheap outdoor heaters will need to be fitted to your wall with the mounting accessories that come with it and can be attached to your convenience nearest to where you will be sitting outside. 

In terms of your cheap fire pit that burns wood or charcoal, it should be positioned on a level surface, at least three metres away from any fencing or furniture and in an open space away from hanging plants or bushes. If you will be putting your outdoor fire pit on the grass, it’s definitely recommended to place a large tile or fire pit mat underneath it to prevent any damage to the grass and to create the safest environment. Putting your fire pit on a patio is fine as long as it’s a tiled patio as opposed to a wooden one.
