As the temperatures drop even further and we head into the new year, I find myself daydreaming of evenings spent bundled up in a blanket, sipping a hot drink, and watching whatever brand-new limited series has just dropped. Winter isn’t just a season - it’s a time of year valued for its cosy and wholesome vibe. And what better way to embrace it than by making your home feel as comfy and inviting as possible?
This year, I decided to refresh two key spaces in my home, my living room and my bedroom, to reflect this cosy vibe that we’re going for. I wanted my relaxation zones to have the ultimate blend of comfort and warmth while still looking chic and pleasing for the senses. Armed with a mixture of cushions and throws, I created warm little zones that make braving the colder months not just bearable when it comes to the ever-increasing chill, but elevated in style and texture. Let me walk you through how I did it, with a few of my favourite finds from OHS.
Living Room: Jewel-Toned Luxe
When I think of winter evenings in the living room, I picture crackling candles, rich textures, and deep, jewel-like colours. I wanted this space to feel luxurious yet snug - a place where I could curl up with a book or entertain friends over a well-deserved glass of wine.
To set the tone, I chose the Sienna Matte Velvet Cushion Covers in forest green and burnt orange. The velvet fabric adds a touch of glamour, while the colours bring warmth and depth to the space. I paired these with the OHS Faux Fur Thick Ribbed Cushion Covers in green for a bit of plush texture. Although varied in texture, nothing beats this combo for a consistently cosy winter retreat.
On my new sofa, I draped the Brentfords Teddy Fleece Throw in burgundy, which I have to say instantly elevated the space with its complimentary tone and teddy texture. For those extra-chilly evenings when I just needed that extra bit of comfort, I added the OHS Teddy Cuddle Cushion in cream - a cushion that hugs and supports you in all the right places; it has practically become the family’s new favourite spot, much to my annoyance if I’m honest. I’ll have to add a couple more to my cart soon enough.
Bedroom: Winter Brights with a Toasty Touch
The bedroom is where I went all out with combining more neutral, cosy shades with pops of colour. What better way to wake up on a frosty morning than surrounded by chic textures and uplifting shades?
After much deliberation, I decided to use the OHS Thick Faux Fur Waffle Throw in charcoal to introduce an eye-catching quality to my plain white bedding. In addition, I threw on the Supersoft Throw from Brentfords in green, creating a contrasting and crisp collection of layers.
If you’re anything like me, the bedding set-up is not complete without a few too many cushions, which some may call unnecessary – but we simply know better. This is an opportunity to introduce some really interesting colours to the room, made better by the fact you can swap out your cushion covers whenever you feel a change is due. For this, I went for the Bobble Texture Cushion Covers in blue – a bright and uplifting shade that plays off of the green throw, again adding to that crisp collection of colours and eye-catching textures; giving the bedding a more sophisticated, luxurious look and feel.
For extra comfort, I added the OHS Teddy Bolster Pillow in charcoal at the head of the bed, propped up right behind my cushions. It’s perfect for sitting up against while flipping through my favourite winter reads. And because winter evenings can be especially unforgiving, the OHS Heated Teddy Fleece Electric Blanket in forest green was a treat I couldn’t refuse myself. Let me tell you, there is no better feeling than crawling into a pre-warmed bed after a long day - it’s pure bliss.
Why Small Updates Matter
Updating these spaces wasn’t just about aesthetics - it was a form of self-care. As the days get colder, having warm, inviting spaces to retreat to has made a world of difference in how I feel. Plus, it’s a reminder that even small changes, like swapping out cushion covers or adding a new throw, can completely transform your home. The best thing about these pieces is their versatility. You can utilise your own selection year round, retiring and introducing new elements as you please so that your space stays fresh while changing alongside you.
So, whether you’re planning a full winter refresh or just looking for a few pieces to cosy up your space, I can’t recommend these cushions and throws enough. With the right textures, colours, and a little creativity, you can turn your home into a sanctuary that keeps you warm all winter long. Trust me, you’ll never want to leave the house!
