With spring now in full swing, it is finally time to give it all over to my favourite colour; green. Green is a wonderful shade, and a versatile one at that. It is a staple colour year-round, and is pretty much unavoidable no matter the season. As a quintessential winter colour, green is synonymous with frosted Christmas trees and berry dotted wreathes. Every day, countless toddlers turn their noses up at an array of virescent superfoods, identified and decidedly shunned by their hue. When I fly back home, the plane descends into a patchwork of well-tended to pickle and pine coloured fields. Did you know that from space, around 32% of earth is covered in green?

Of course, green truly takes its centre stage when spring turns it head. When I think of spring, I think of well-chosen patches of grass for a picnic, and leaves growing back to full power on overarching oak trees, and of refreshing sun-suited meals stuffed with spinach and cucumber and asparagus. For me, it is probably the defining colour of both spring and summer, and automatically makes me feel refreshed and alert when I notice it start creeping back into my natural surroundings. Green, both in colour and nature, is said to contribute to a wealth of psychological, emotional, and physical benefits, including an improved mood and enhanced cognitive function. In nature, abundant green areas are said to promote internal recovery from stress, and access to said spaces has been linked to social health.

But what about your indoor surroundings? While I do like to weave some green throughout my home year-round, spring is when I really break out my signature shades and focus on creating an indoor oasis that reflects our lush outdoor areas. So, let us run through some simple swaps across soft furnishings, bedding and garden accessories that we hope will help tie your home together this spring and contribute to an elevated season overall.

Let’s start with the easiest home updates; cushions and throws. A couple new throws and cushion covers give us the opportunity to refresh with texture as well as spring colours, allowing us to swap out the heavier faux furs and teddy textures for lighter fleece alternatives. Throws are also a great way to introduce lush prints and patterns to a room. At OHS, we are pleased to offer some gorgeous and unique examples of exactly that; some customer favourites include our new tropical floral print (which extends to an entire garden range!) and the simplistic dragonfly print. Cushion covers are equally as easy to find some green alternatives for. Some of my personal favourites from the current range include the matte velvet bee print covers and the leaf pinsonic covers, both in sage. I have also been loving the look of voiles this spring; a fabulous curtain companion or alternative for filtered light. Check out the tropical print and linen look voiles in sage.

Next, let’s look at bedding. Similar to soft furnishings, your duvet cover is really ready to be dressed up or down depending on your mood. As I mentioned above, the colour green is said to reduce stress and promote relaxation, and where better for exactly that than the bedroom? With an array of plain dye greens and attractive patterns available across our range, I recommend a quick scroll through our sets and no doubt a duvet cover or two will catch your eye. Personally, I’m a fan of the tropical foliage (which has the added benefit of being reversible), and I love the tactile geometric seersucker for an eye-catching edge. With a refreshing set chosen, layer cushions and throws on top for a lush and complete spring look.

Lastly, let’s find that sweet spot between indoors and out with a garden transformation. Your garden should feel like an extension of your home – a space that’s just as inviting and full of personality. Outdoor accessories that effortlessly mirror the greenery around you are the easier way to bring exactly that to life. Think a swing bench for lazy morning coffees now we can trust the sun to wake up with us, and gravity chairs designed for relaxation while you catch the last of the evening sun; little luxuries that turn a simple set-up into a private retreat. As for the essential final touches, soft furnishings – as usual – are the gamechanger. Shop a range of tropical and floral prints that bring a botanical feel, while the sage geo collection adds subtle texture and depth. Simply scatter some outdoor cushions, light throws for chillier evenings, and call it a day!
