Combating tiredness is a year-round battle for some but even more so when the clocks go forward every year. This year, daylight savings time starts on Sunday 27th March which means we’ll be one step closer to those long Summer evenings…yay!
However, this of course also results in us losing a precious hour of sleep so don’t be surprised if you end up snoozing your alarm more than once on Monday morning. This is why we’re coming to your rescue by rounding up all the top tips and letting you in on all the secrets of how to combat tiredness this Spring. You’re welcome!
Perhaps one of the more easy and obvious tips for combating tiredness is to try staggering your bedtimes each night this week to avoid the inevitable fatigue that will occur following this weekend.
Simply take yourself to bed 15 minutes earlier every night, for example, if your usual bedtime is around 10:30 pm, take yourself up to bed at 10:15 pm then 10 pm the following night etc.
It’s a small difference that should ease you into the change and ultimately help you when it comes to combating tiredness.
Combating tiredness isn’t all about getting more sleep in when you can. One of our best forms of defence for transitioning through the seasonal shift and maintaining our wellbeing is mindful snacking. Yes, you heard that right! Mindful snacking.
Have a go at munching on nutrient-dense foods to provide you with energy and, you guessed it, nutrients to help keep you going. Nuts such as almonds are a source of niacin (vitamin B3), folate and iron, and are high in riboflavin (vitamin B2) and magnesium, which all contribute to a reduction in tiredness and fatigue.
The ideal tactic for combating tiredness when you’re a serial snacker!
It might sound obvious, but your sleep environment can play a huge role when it comes to your quality of sleep and combating tiredness. If your bedroom is too hot, there’s a chill in the air or your bedding is far from the plump softness it once was, then this can cause your sleep to be disturbed, making you feel more tired than you are.
If you’re wondering how to combat tiredness, then look to refresh your sleep environment in line with the clocks going forward and create the ultimate sleeping haven with our duvets and pillows, block out any disturbing morning light with our blackout curtains or invest in some cosy loungewear to help you drift off to sleep!
The temperature is mild, the sun is slowly setting and you’re winding down for the night. As tempting as it may be to pop open a bottle of rosé, this surprisingly isn’t how to combat tiredness and your circadian rhythm probably won’t thank you for it later.
Any alcohol can throw off your rhythm and blunt your ability to synchronise, meaning that even though you might feel like you’d have a good night’s sleep after a drink or two, you’re likely to feel even drowsier the next day.
So, whilst we’re all for making the most of those light evenings, we advise avoiding a chilled alcoholic beverage until your body has adjusted and is more prepared for combating tiredness.
We know you’ve probably heard it thousands of times when people discuss how to combat tiredness but exercise can seriously switch up your mood and boost your energy levels when you’re feeling tired.
Trust us, we can relate to the fact that doing a workout when you’re grumpy and sleepy however squeezing some form of exercise into your schedule will truly aid you in feeling positive and awake, even if it’s just an evening walk enjoying the last bit of sun.
